The Commercial Hippies is made up of two brilliant Cape Town based Psy-Trance DJ/Producers, Anton Raubenheimer and Gareth Tacon who have earned themselves a loyal following for their quality sounds! Recently they have been involved in a sublimely futuristic Sci-Fi film titled Coded. The track has been made available as a FREE DOWNLOAD on Nano Music. Below we asked them a few questions on this cutting edge new project!
How did you manage to hook up this project. Who is involved, country of origin of this film?
The Durban based writer Gavin Humphrey heard us play on New Years eve at a Rezonance Festival, he contacted us about a month after to ask if we would be involved. Being HUGE Sci-Fi fans we jumped at the opportunity!
What is the movie (Coded) about?
This is the Film Synopsis – “In a dystopian world where pleasure is the only form of escape, audio narcotics are the next big wave. Seekers indulge their every desire by tuning in to the mind-altering effects of audio plugins. Exploring the frontiers of consciousness has become as simple as slipping on a pair of headphones”.
Talk to us about the binaural nature of this soundtrack…
The track was mixed in binaural for purposes of the movie. Using binaural plugins we can mix within a three dimensional spectrum which works far more effectively than in 5.1 surround. It is designed to be listened to on headphones and gives an exaggerated sense of space, but really it just sounds pretty damn cool!
Sounds so awesome! Which version will the fans be getting?
The version we are releasing on Nano Records is in normal stereo because the binaural mix is only meant for listening on headphones but we are planning to post a binaural version for fans to download.
Have you done any other soundtracks to films before?
This is our first feature film soundtrack we have been involved in as The Commercial Hippies. However we are currently busy mixing and scoring a film with our studio “The Bakery Studios MPH” and have written music for the likes of HiTech USA, SA Rugby, Truworths, SA Sports Illustrated, and many more. This has definitely been the most interesting and challenging so
