We chat to New Age Psy DJ/Producer Shayman. He talks about the goodness of Psychedelic breezes, mature music, and his relationship with Nano Records.
“My desire to provide new and original sound is pretty much my inspiration to constantly develop my music and to present something new to this world.”
1. How would you sum up the concept of New age Psy trance for someone who is relatively new to the genre?
In general I really like the direction the scene has been taking in the last few years. The Psychedelic breezes are back which for me is still considered as the most relevant aspect of all. I see a near future full of fresh new innovative sounds from a bundle of new, surprising producers.
2. What do you appreciate and take away from artists such as Prometheus, Simon Posford, and Pink Floyd?
I can easily say that these acts have impacted my musical direction completely. Mature music full of new ideas and directions which is always surprising and touching.
My desire to provide new and original sound is pretty much my inspiration to constantly develop my music and to present something new to this world.
3. When did your relationship with Nano Records begin and what is your opinion of the label?
It was during 2011-2012 while working on my debut album. Like most upcoming acts I sent the label my music. My good friend & colleague, producer & DJ Eitan Reiter (AKA LOUD) which I respect dearly helped assist in forming a relationship. The connection was immediate.
4. Which ancient melodies are you most drawn to and why?
This is a very difficult question as I am drawn to a lot of musical directions. What I can say is that I just love middle eastern motifs and melodies… it comes from home.
5. What sort of theme carried the sound for your debut album release ‘Landing on the Moon’?
I have been working hard on this album. Pretty much like giving birth to your first child. The theme is one – Shayman.
Shayman’s debut album can be heard and bought here.
