Join us for the first in our “Psy Family” interview series. Get into these ten and a half insightful questions that we throw at our buddy Ace Ventura!
“…But anyway, it could be nice to make a soap opera about the trance scene! Raja Ram would have to star.”
Where are you right now? And where would you rather be?
I am in Altdorf/Uri in Switzerland, awaiting the ride for my gig. Given that Switzerland is my second home, I’d say it’s a pretty good place to be!
You have some great collaborations projects on the go, plus have worked with many amazing artists. Anyone stand out in terms of really showing you something you hadn’t thought of before – be it studio tricks, technique, concepts, approach to songwriting?
I think you learn something from everyone and there has been a lot of inspiration over the years. Lately I had a chance to work with Astrix in his studio and was impressed with how fast and efficient he is, sharp as hell!
What advice would you give any aspiring DJ or producers wanting to play on the same line ups as Ace Ventura?
I remember holding a Transwave vinyl album in my hands, with an epic pic of Christoph and Dado during a live set – and really wanting to be in their shoes. Next step was hanging with a pal and trying to do it ourselves. So the advice would be a simple ‘just do it’. You never know where it will take you.
Which of the Nano Records producers are you most enjoying currently?
You have a fine roster of psychedelica. Lately I would say that the Shayman album has been doing the rounds, sure is a good one.
What was the best meal you have ever eaten and where did you eat it?
Gee thats a tough one. As a carnivore i would say some of my best meals were in Brazilian churascarias. But my wife is really an amazing cook, so I get awesome fresh meals at home on a daily basis.
Which TV series do you wish you could star in and why?
I wouldn’t wanna star in any tv show, I would probably be a lousy actor. But wouldn’t mind collaborating with composer Dave Porter on the score of Breaking Bad.
Have you ever considered directing a TV series or a career in Photoshopping faces onto posters?
Years ago I was working on sound post production for Israeli tv shows, good times but lousy money. But anyway, it could be nice to make a soap opera about the trance scene! Raja Ram would have to star. Tristan could fill the sexy male lead role.
Three plugins or synths you can’t live with out?
Audiorealism Bassline, Native instruments Massive & access virus TI.
What does the global PsyTrance scene need more of?
More festivals! Hands down it’s the best part of the global scene, where everyone from everywhere comes together! Fun fun fun. Oh and more cowbell.
What are you currently working on?
World peace. Oh and some music too! The new double Ace Ventura album is well underway. A few Zentura tracks are almost ready to be unleashed, and a new Easy Riders EP will be out at the end of October, yay.
Thanks for the talk & Big up for Nano!
